RED Episode #131: Run Like MADD Virtual Races, Horse Eyed Jake’s American Sliders, and Bones Coffee
RUN
This week we are previewing a race we will be running at the end of September. We’d love it if you would join us in the Southwest Florida Walk Like MADD 5K & 10K to raise money for the Mothers Against Drunk Driving. We talk about it with Lori Burke, Executive Director of MADD. She talks about the important work that this organization does for victims and their families.
We would love for you all to join us in supporting MADD by going to madd.org/5k and register to walk, run, dance, or bike a 5k or 10k for this great community organization. Special thank you to Lori Burke for taking the time to talk with us about MADD and this event.
EAT
This week we feature a great local food truck Horse Eyed Jake’s American Sliders. We’ve seen it around town and finally got a chance to try it out. The sliders that come out of this truck are over-sized and delicious. We tried four, including a Jammin’ Jalapeño, T-Bone, the Wakey Jakey, and a Crab Jake, too! All cooked to perfection and sauced just right! We also got the cooked-to-order chips and tried the Old Bay and Spicy Ranch seasonings. Finally, we were stuffed, but couldn’t pass up Carrot Cakey with a pineapple flair and frosting that was so cream cheesy! If you are local, you should give this food truck a try!
DRINK
Bones Coffee is another local gem roasted right here in our hometown. But, you can order it no matter where you are! You can get pounds of ground coffee or whole-bean and there are sampler packs if you need to try the variety of flavors Bones Coffee offers. We tried the Chocolate Orange Caramel Apple because we are heading into fall and wanted a taste that made us think of cooler weather. The flavors were subtle and not artificial at all. Dana does not generally like flavored coffees but enjoyed these two from Bones Coffee. The flavors are orchestrated well with a hint of the flavor but nothing that takes it too far and into the realm of dessert-type coffee beverages. We can’t wait to try more flavors from this local company and are excited that you all could get them shipped to your door, too!
THAT’S A WRAP!
